About the Study

This research study is being conducted by FAU sociology professor, Laura Backstrom.

The aim of the study is to better understand how places, specifically small cities, shape the views and experiences of parents.

Your privacy is taken seriously, and your responses are confidential. Pseudonyms will be used in any published material.  This research study has been approved by FAU’s IRB (IRB #1654139).

Procedures:  

You will be asked to participate in the study by taking part in a one-on-one interview. Participation is completely voluntary.  

Interviews will last until all of the questions have been answered. This should take approximately 1.5-2 hours.

The interview will take place online via Zoom.

Risks:

There are few risks for the subjects in this research. Participation is voluntary, and participants have the option to abstain from answering any questions they do not want to. Participants can also end the interview at any time.

About Laura Backstrom

Laura Backstrom is an associate professor of sociology at Florida Atlantic University. Her research focuses on children and families. She is the author of the 2019 book, Weighty Problems: Embodied Inequality at a Children’s Weight Loss Camp. Laura lives in Delray Beach, Florida with her husband and three children.
